PROCESS

final

The process throughout Assignment 1 wasn't easy at all. I have never took art class before. When I was told that my 1st assignment will be drawing portrait, I was really stressed up, shock, worried and scared. All these emotions hit me hard as I literally have to start from zero. When I first hand in on of my sketches. I was told that I have to try again. I became determined and decided to draw sketches as my progress once again. I would also get advice from Mr Choy and look through youtube to guide me. As a results, Mr Choy said it was way better and I felt so motivated and happy that my hard work paid off!

My final piece of artwork for Assignment 1 includes a girl which is drowning in a sea and there are cracks and flowers onto her face. Her clothes also has a soft and rough texture as well. The cracks represent hurtful events that has created scars within herself. Those flowers represent friendship, happiness, family, strength and support. There are inspiring words on her skin as well. The rough and soft texture means there are ups and downs in life. I created this artwork as depression has been one of the society problems faced by teenagers with high ratings and I hope that it can inspire other people. Basically the meaning of this artwork is when you have suicidal thoughts, you must think twice and should think there are always people who will be caring and supportive towards you. Life can be hard sometimes but those hard times are filled with memorable and happy moments as well.

Assignment 1

Creating an introspective and expressive self-portrait that either communicates something about oneself or sheds some light into his/her personality.

ASSIGNMENT 1

process

Studying art history as starting point to get inspiration for this assignment. Various "visual approaches" sampled from art movement/artist's outcomes will be used for close analytical study.

Assignment 2

FINAL

During the process of Assignment 2, I have done many research on different types of art movement. I have decided to choose surrealism after many researches. This is because I find surrealism very interesting as I can relate human and surroundings to form a new subject. For example, I find Rene Magritte's artwork interesting.

My final artwork is relating human and time. Each and everyone of us has our own time limit in life. As time goes by, there are people who will leave us or enter into our life. The leaves represents all the memories and moments that will remain forever. The butterflies represents people who come and go.

FINAL

Creating a set of triptych image with expressive illustration. This illustration to be inspired by narratives collected of literary material
(music lyrics, self-written or someone's written short poetry )

ASSIGNMENT 3

PROCESS

During the process of Assignment 3, I went to pick out the songs that I really like. After spending some time hearing while looking at the lyrics to get some ideas, my two choices were either Jessica-fly or FT Island- To The Light. I decided to sketch out a piece of artwork for each of them. The song "fly" sung by Jessica has a freedom theme while "To The Light" sung by FT Island has a inspiring theme which is a person is able to find hope he/she sees the light. After sketching out, my final choice was FT Island- To The Light as I felt that it could relate to me more and I prefer the idea more. Besides, I also tried out some mark making using different tools such as toothbrush, toothpick, cotton, handprint, strings, fruit pattern and so on.

For my final artwork, I was required to do a triptych art. I have decided to lay out my three pieces of artwork in a vertical way for easier understanding purpose.
As you can see, the first piece of artwork from the top shows a girl with a black shadow standing under the rain. The atmosphere of it is very gloomy and sad based  on the dark sky together with dry trees and falling leaves. However, there is a door that gives her light and leads her to the place in the second piece of artwork.
There are many light bulbs and candles in the second piece of artwork to provide the girl light. Light can be symbolize as hope and prevent on from being trap darkness. When the girl fills up herself with light, she finally has the courage to leave her own darkness.
When she walk through the door that leads her to the third scenario, there is a sunset in the third piece of art work. The sunset brings out a calm feeling. The girl is finally able to breathe and is ready to move on with her life without feeling afraid to face any hardships in the future.

Creating a set of A to Z exploring alphabets as image-making process.Exploring basic visual elements of line color shape and spatial layout to create series of alphabets that are unique and artistic.

ASSIGNMENT 4

PROCESS

The process of marbling art had left me and unforgettable and enjoyable experiences. I have use gloss paint or marbling paint to produce different types of outcomes. Based on my experience, gloss paint is will produce a thick and shiny outcome whereas marbling paint will produce a thin and very free flowing effect. I have also tried out the ring effect and the layering effect. Besides, when two pieces of marbling art were dried, I decided to try out weaving too. The process of weaving wasn't easy as it takes up quite some time and required patience too but I enjoy doing it a lot as I like the outcome of weaving. Moreover, I have also done the negative and positive effect for every alphabets from A-Z.

FINAL

I have decided to gather all of the alphabets into like a small booklet. This booklet can also be open in a continuous effect too.
